Learn how to design and construct commercial buildings to meet 2021 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), recently adopted in KCMO!

Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance and Building Energy Exchange KC are bringing you a series of educational workshops to position you and your company to be ready to take on projects under the new standard.
Kansas City, Missouri recently adopted the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code which will take affect July 1st of this year. For designers and contractors, upgrading the energy code from its 10+ year old predecessor will include significant changes to building envelope requirements, mechanical/ventilation, and the compliance process.
Join local architects, engineers, and contractors for our kick-off event on April 10th from 12-1:30 at AIA Kansas City! An overview of the code will be presented followed by "office hours" that will allow you bring your specific project questions to the 2021 IECC experts.

PART 1, May 3rd, 11-12:30: Commercial Energy Code Basics. Gain a high-level understanding of the building envelope and mechanical components of the code. Learn about the pathways for compliance and how the code applies to existing buildings. Virtual

PART 2, May 17th, 11-12:30: Understanding the Building Science. Sharpen your building science knowledge and understand how these best practices support compliance for the 2021 IECC. Topics include water mitigation, air sealing, temperature transfer, and quality control measures. Virtual

PART 3, May 31st, 11-12:30: IECC vs. ASHRAE. The 2021 IECC references ASHRAE 90.1 as an alternative compliance path. This session provides an overview of ASHRAE 90.1 standards and considers when it can best be utilized. Virtual

PART 4, June 14th, 11-12:30: Com Check + Advanced Technology. COMcheck is the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s commercial energy compliance tool that identifies if a project has met the IECC or ASHRAE standards. Get an overview of its basic functions, learn how to enter complex building data, and understand compliance reports. Virtual

About the Facilitators:

Instructor: Matt Belcher, Principal Verdatek Solutions

Matt Belcher is an experienced builder/developer and nationally recognized consultant, educator, and author on the business of energy efficient “resilient” building and development. He has been actively involved in the construction industry for over four decades, including many years as a top building codes official. He is the current Chairman of the National Association of Homebuilders Building Systems Council Board of Trustees. While serving as Director of the University of Missouri’s High Performance Buildings Research Center for more than a decade, Mr. Belcher worked to educate building industry professionals, governmental administrators and students on International Building, Mechanical and Energy Conservation Code structure, methodology and application.
